Origin & Background of RDF

  • Rural Development Foundation (RDF) is a public society governed by a board of directors which includes eminent public servants and citizens. However, it began as a family initiative. It was conceived by several third and fourth generation members of the Errabelli family hailing from village of Kalleda of Warangal district in the state of Andhra Pradesh.
  • The thought of giving something back to the “soil”, the source of their wealth and affluent lifestyle, first surfaced as an idea as far back as in the year1991.
  • The belief that education was the reason for their success in life, made it clear to them that providing education to the children of the village would be their best way of paying their “debt” to the land.
  • It took another five years for this conviction to become a reality.
  • In June 1996, the first school, housed in the edifice that once served as the residence of the family patriarchs, was inaugurated in the Kalleda village.
  • The initiative was given a formal structure, by registering “Rural Development Foundation” as a not for profit society under the Registration of Societies Act.
  • RDF has since spread beyond the first village of Kalleda . Today, RDF runs and operates five schools and a Junior College in villages spread over three different districts of Andhra Pradesh.
